EMT-Basic Course

Introduction to the level of EMT-Basic: Includes all skills necessary to provide emergency medical care at a basic life support level with an ambulance service or other specialized services. The student will recognize the nature and seriousness of a patient’s condition, determine extent of injuries and assess requirements for emergency medical care, lift, move, position, and otherwise handle the patient to minimize discomfort and prevent further injury, and safely and effectively perform the expectations of the basic level EMT.  Class meets two nights a week from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, with Saturdays from 8:00 am until 5:00 pm for special topics such as extrication/rescue and skills practice. Class will involve about 256 clock hours of class, laboratory, and skills learning, 48 hours of ambulance runs to include a minimum of five (5) emergency ambulance runs and 24 hours of clinical rotation in an emergency department.  Class length is approximately six months.

Cost: $2000.00. A down payment of $1000.00 is required to reserve your seat, with the remainder owed paid throughout the length of the course. Additional expenses apply to agencies outside of Life Ambulance EMS Academy.

Prerequisites: Must be at least 18 years of age at time of NREMT test.

Must have High School Diploma or GED.

Advanced EMT (AEMT)

Introduction to the advanced life support program. Emphasis on the Department of Transportation Advanced EMT guidelines and related topics relevant to the practice of pre-hospital emergency medical care at the Advanced EMT level. Students will learn to competently perform all applicable skills, and exhibit attitudes and behavior consistent with the ethics and professionalism expected of the Advanced EMT.  Class meets two nights a week from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm, with Saturdays 8:00 am until 5:00 pm and will involve at least 262 clock hours of didactic learning, at least 72 hours of ambulance rotation to include ten emergency ALS runs, and 60 hours of clinical rotation at hospital departments. Class length is approximately five months.

Cost: $2300.00. A down payment of $900.00 is required to reserve your seat, with the remainder owed paid throughout the length of the course. Additional expenses apply to agencies outside of Life Ambulance EMS Academy.

Must have High School Diploma or GED.

Must have EMT-Basic licensure by the Texas Department of State Health Services or certification by the NREMT.

Must have current CPR for the Healthcare Provider.

Continuing Education (CE)

Continuing Education (CE) Courses are offered throughout the year, dependent on instructor availability.
